PLANET EARTH: FLORENCE, THE CRADLE OF THE RENAINSSANCE

The exhibition, which opened in one of the exhibition halls of the Cultural and Exhibition Centre “Raduga” on the eve of 2018, continues the series of exhibitions of the large-scale project “Planet Earth”.

Florence is an Italian city on the Arno River. In the past, it was the centre of the Florentine Republic, the capital of the Medici dukes and that of the Italian Kingdom. Now it is the administrative centre of the Tuscan Region.
Even though remote from the sea, and despite constant political unrest, Florence of the XIII – XVII centuries made a grandiose contribution to the European and world civilization. The city gave the world such giants as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello, Dante, and Galileo. The local dialect formed the basis of the literary Italian language, the Florentine coin became the standard for the whole of Europe, Florentine artists developed the laws of perspective, the Florentine navigator Amerigo Vespucci gave his name to two continents, and the Florentine thinkers laid the foundation for the Renaissance. So Florence rightly bears the name of “The Cradle of the Renaissance”.
